Kateryna Odarchenko, Head of the Institute for Democracy and Development “Polita”, took part in an Atlantic Council discussion launching the newest report in the Russia Tomorrow series — “The CRINKs: Russia’s New Partners in Its War Against Ukraine.”

During the panel, Odarchenko posed a central question about the evolving dynamic between Russia and China:

“Is the Russia–China partnership truly strategic, or is it merely pragmatic — with Moscow reduced to a raw-materials appendage for Beijing? And does any genuine ideological alignment exist between the two, beyond the façade of authoritarian convenience?”

Her intervention highlighted growing concerns about the nature of Moscow’s dependence on Beijing, as well as the broader implications for global security and democratic resilience.
