Recently, global diplomacy, Jewish tradition, and urgent calls for justice came together at the 33rd Annual Ambassadors’ Seder hosted by AJC (American Jewish Committee), Washington, D.C. The event welcomed over 50 diplomats, U.S. government officials, civil society leaders, and human rights advocates for an evening of intercultural exchange and deep reflection on the enduring themes of Passover.
The Ambassadors’ Seder is a unique tradition that connects the ancient story of the Exodus with today’s most pressing global challenges. This year’s Seder carried a special resonance, drawing attention to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the plight of hostages held in Gaza.
Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova delivered powerful remarks, calling Ukraine’s resistance “our Passover and our fight for freedom.” Her statement underscored the Seder’s timeless message: the journey from oppression to liberation is not just a historical narrative — it’s a lived reality for millions around the world today.

Among the distinguished attendees was Kateryna Odarchenko, head of the Institute for Democracy and Development “PolitA,” whose presence reflected continued international support for Ukraine’s democratic aspirations. Her participation reinforced the evening’s central theme: solidarity across nations and faiths in pursuit of justice and freedom.
Also speaking were Keith and Aviva Siegel, former hostages who shared their emotional journey and called for continued advocacy on behalf of the 59 hostages still held in Gaza. Their words served as a sobering reminder of the stakes and the urgency for global action.
The Seder also reflected a growing movement of solidarity. Throughout the week, advocacy groups across Washington, D.C. and beyond rallied in support of Israel and the safe return of all captives. This unified front demonstrates the powerful role of interfaith diplomacy and human rights advocacy in addressing international crises.
“I’m proud to stand with those who believe in democratic values, freedom, and human dignity,” one attendee shared. “Events like this remind us that freedom is not guaranteed — it must be protected and shared.”
As the Jewish community and allies around the world prepare to celebrate Passover 2025, the Seder offered a profound reminder: the call for liberation echoes through generations, and as the Torah teaches, each of us has the power to be the “mighty hand and outstretched arm” bringing hope to others.
